Using Cc, Bcc, and Reply-to in your responses
About the Reply-to Field - and how to set it
All userhelp correspondence should have userhelp@chebucto.ns.ca in the
Reply-to: field. To find out if you actually have one, type 'c' as if you
were going to compose a message. While you are in the top of the headers,
use ^R to yank in the other headers. If you have a custom header for
Reply-To, it will be the top header you see. If not, here is how to set
up the Reply-to field: (Cancel your message first)
- Get to the configuration menu with these three keystrokes:
- m for m)ain menu
- s for s)etup options
- c for the c)onfiguration menu.
- Using your arrow keys, scroll down until you see an option that
says "customized-headers".
- Type a for a)dd value
- Add this value exactly as shown: Reply-to
- Press return
- Exit the configuration menu.
- When responding to any userhelp mail, use ^R, and then type
'userhelp' without the quotes, in the Reply-to: field.
The difference between Cc: and Bcc:
Cc: means "carbon copy". That means that your message will go
to the address on the Cc: line, and that address will be visible
to all recipients.
Bcc: means "blind carbon copy". Your message will go to
the address on the Bcc: line, but that address will not be
visible to any recipients.
When to Cc: to userhelp
Requests sent to the user for more detail about their questions
are not yet considered "answers". They are to be Cc'ed to userhelp
just to let the rest of the team know that you have asked for
clarification of that user's question.
Acknowledgements are Cc'ed to userhelp as well.
Here is what the header fields should look like when you
copy to userhelp:
Reply-To: userhelp@chebucto.ns.ca
To: xx000 (whoever you are replying to)
Bcc:
Cc: userhelp@chebucto.ns.ca
Subject: Re: (whatever the original subject was)
When (and how) to Bcc to help-answers
After you know that you understand the question, answers are to be
blind-carbon-copied (Bcc'ed) to help-answers. Here is how:
- While in the header fields, type ^R.
- Use your arrow keys and then type help-answers in the Bcc field.
- Continue to compose your message.
Here is what the header fields should look like when you
Bcc to help-answers:
Reply-To: userhelp@chebucto.ns.ca
To: xx000 (whoever you are replying to)
Cc:
Bcc: help-answers@chebucto.ns.ca
Subject: Re: (whatever the original subject was)
